Las Vegas’ Roots Will Deepen in 2018

Las Vegas Roots in NCWTS Will Deepen in 2018

Earlier this week, Las Vegas Motor Speedway made a landmark announcement by adding a second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race weekend to the 2018 schedule. As part of that announcement, LVMS’ roots will deepen in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with an additional race at LVMS on next year’s schedule.

While schedule alterations to NASCAR’s schedules are rare, the addition of a second stop at LVMS does not come as a major surprise. Since the opening of LVMS in 1996, the track has appeared on the NCWTS schedule in every season but one, and has always played a crucial role in the championship. From 1996-1998, LVMS hosted the season finale, and has since been a pivotal date on the calendar, with its traditional date in early fall. Timothy Peters is one of the 18 drivers who have tasted victory at the diamond in the desert in 20 races, and has competed at LVMS for nine seasons.

“It’s a good move” Peters said of the addition. “That city is obviously a destination for race fans and the track has always had one of the best standalone NCWTS races on the schedule. It’s an exciting city for us to compete in, and it’s a city that gets excited when we come to town.”

LVMS has been a venue where RHR has excelled throughout the team’s 12-year history, especially in recent memory. Including Peters’ victory in 2013, the Red Horse Racing teams have combined 10 starts in the last four races, and have tallied one win, one pole, four top-five, seven top-10 finishes. The recent success for Peters and RHR has him optimistic for the two stops in ‘18.

“I love racing there. We’ve always been able to run well in Vegas and that win in ’13 was a big deal. We sat on the pole last fall and nearly had a 1-2 finish for the company the year before in 2015. It a place where you have options as a driver, and I think our trucks put on the best show of any series that races there. It’s a great move, and hopefully we’ll be in the championship mix when we go there in the Playoffs this season.”

Before the newsworthy additions on the 2018 calendar take place, the RHR contingent will head to LVMS on September 30 for the second race in Round 1 of the NCWTS Playoffs.
