Starr Continues Martinsville Magic With Sixth Place Finish PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 29 March 2008
rhrmville.pngDavid Starr and the Red Horse Racing team have had some great success together at Martinsville Speedway and Saturday was no different as the duo fought hard for a strong sixth place finish in the Kroger 250 in their No. 11 Toyota Tundra at the .526-mile paperclip track.

"It was a good points day," said Starr. "It was a good day for Toyota and Red Horse Racing. But it's a shame some Toyota drivers don't work better together.  It's all everybody for their own, but everybody should work together.  I think for the most part we all do.  We all race each other clean and then we've got some people that come over here and race with us that are in our manufacturer -- teammates you would think -- that just will turn you in an instant.  It's just a shame that it turned out this way because we had a bunch of Toyota's up there and a bunch of them didn't end up where they should have so I'm just disappointed."

Starr started the 250-lap short track battle from the ninth spot as a result of a solid qualifying effort on Saturday morning.  The veteran racer quickly forged his way into the top five where he would remain most of the race.  Crew chief Jamie Jones would bring his driver and truck down pit road under caution on lap 80 for their only stop of the day. The Red Horse Racing crew serviced their Toyota Tundra with four fresh Goodyear tires and fuel.

The last half of the race began with the Red Horse Racing machine running solidly in the top five and with the driver and team having their sights set on a repeat victory from 2006.  However, a fellow competitor had other ideas and on lap 190 Starr was pushed out of the racing groove and nearly into the turn one wall.  Starr did a nice job of saving his Toyota Tundra but would lose six valuable spots.  Determined to regain lost ground, Starr fought hard the last 50 laps of the race and avoided numerous incidents on the track to come home with the sixth place finish.

"We fought hard for sure all day today," stated David.  "The guys on this team gave me a great truck once again and we used our two practice session on Friday to get the truck really comfortable and turning well.  Although we had the one run-in on the track for the most part we were able to keep our nose clean and come home with a solid finish.  You always want to do better and not be satisfied with anything less than a win - but in the big picture this was an important race for us after we struggled last time out in Atlanta."

Starr moves to seventh in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings with 534 points, just six points out of the sixth spot.  Kyle Busch leads the standings with 645 points.

Next up for Starr and the No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota is the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway. Practice is set for Friday April 25, 2008 with qualifying and the 167-lap/250 mile race set for Saturday April 26, 2008. The race will be televised live on SPEED starting at 5:30 P.M. Eastern. The race will also be broadcast live on selected radio affiliates of the Motor Racing Network nationwide and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
