David Starr - No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra
Round 11 of 25 - The Milwaukee Mile: Camping World RV Sales 200
Starr on the History of Milwaukee:
"When we go to Milwaukee, it is cool to reflect on the years of history that have taken place there. I have gotten to know A.J. Foyt over the years and have talked to him about racing at Milwaukee. He has lots of pictures from when he raced at there, which have been cool to look at. A.J. is one of my heroes and I really enjoy spending time with him. And even long before A.J., Milwaukee has been raced at by so many racing greats. Drivers have raced at Milwaukee since 1903, which shows that it is a track absorbed with history. Milwaukee has the same tradition as Indianapolis Motor Speedway and so many talented drivers have raced at both of these tracks. I am privileged to say that I have raced on a track like Milwaukee since it has so much great history."
Starr on Milwaukee as a short track or superspeedway:
"I believe that Milwaukee is a combination of both a short track and superspeedway. The Milwaukee Mile has a lot of short track characteristics. It is a very unique track - really unlike any other that we go to in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The banking in turns 1 and 2 are in the opposite direction than one would expect them to be, but it makes the driver work hard and show their ability behind the wheel. Milwaukee can be a very challenging racetrack and handling is an important key to having a great race. So, I would say that Milwaukee is two tracks built into one, which makes it a fun and exciting place to race at."
Starr on the One Day Show at Milwaukee:
"I think that one day shows are a really cool thing to have on our schedule. It is a long day since we practice in the morning, qualify in the afternoon, and then race at night, but it is good for a team like mine that doesn't have a sponsor. It allows us to get in and get out all in one day. Some might say that it is a really long day, but it is a really long day for everyone so the playing field is equal. It is like a survival, because you have to prepare yourself mentally and physically for a long day. Overall I think one day shows are fun and I really like them."
Starr on his 2004 crash at Milwaukee:
"I don't ever think about that crash heading back to Milwaukee. In our industry, things like that are going to happen. It is the risk you take when you climb into the truck every week. I was blessed to recover as fast as I did and that I was able to continue my dream of driving for a living. It doesn't cross my mind unless someone asks me about it. I'm excited to go to Milwaukee this week. I want to win, just like I want to win every week, and when I show up to the track, I am thinking about getting to Victory Lane. The crash in 2004 was just a freak accident and I have moved on. I try to look ahead and not dwell on things in the past."
Starr on his 200th NCTS Start at Michigan last weekend:
"To race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a dream come true. To hit a milestone like 200 starts makes me realize how blessed I am and I'm extremely thankful for the opportunities that have been given to me, so I have been able to race as long as I have. I really have to give credit to the teams that I have been with and thank them for the opportunities that they gave me along the way. I am with a great team now, Red Horse Racing, and I could not be happier. I hope that I will be able to celebrate another 200 starts down the road in my career. I am just living the dream by racing every week and I am extremely blessed."
Milwaukee Chassis: For Friday night's Camping World RV Sales 200, crew chief Jamie Jones has chosen TRD 43. Starr has race this truck twice already this year - in March at Martinsville Speedway and in May at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Starr started 9th and finished 6th in Martinsville and last month at Mansfield, Starr started 3rd and led 170 laps to come home in the 2nd position.
David's Milwaukee Stats: In 6 previous NCTS races at The Milwaukee Mile, David has three top-ten finishes with a best of sixth coming during the 2002 event. His average start is 17.0 and his average finish is 15.3. He has completed 1,135 of 1,208 possible competition laps (95.6%) in his 6 previous NCTS starts.
