David Starr survived a night of ups and downs during the running of Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Camping World RV Sales 200 at the Milwaukee Mile and came home with a 23rd place finish. As the No. 11 PIT Corporate Training Toyota Tundra stayed out as long as possible before pitting under green, Starr seemed to have the luck on his side as a timely caution flew on lap 79, putting all but a handful of trucks a lap down. But halfway through the 200-lap race, the luck ran out as Starr received major damage from a pile up on the frontstretch. The damage from the melee caused Starr to lose the handling of his truck and end the race at America's Legendary Oval, three laps down in the 23rd position.
"My Red Horse Racing team did a great job all day today from practice to the race," said Starr. "My No. 11 PIT Corporate Training Toyota Tundra was free on entry at the beginning of the race. But once we came in for our first pit stop, the adjustments that Jamie Jones called for made my truck come alive. We got a timely caution towards the end of the green flag pit stops which moved us up a lot of positions. We had a top-five run going, but it is a shame that we got caught up in somebody else's troubles on that restart. I got hit from behind and that turned me into the outside wall. It is just a very disappointing misfortune."
Even though significant damage was received during the melee, Starr, a native of Houston, Texas, was proud of the effort that his Red Horse Racing team displayed to repair his Toyota as much as possible under caution, without losing a lap.
"After we got a pretty good amount of damage in that wreck, my splitter was up in the air, which didn't allow my truck to handle as I would have liked it to," Starr said. "My team never gave up and I am proud of them for that. We could have had a good run tonight, which would have been good for our moral, but this is just very disappointing. My team will keep plugging away and we will go get them in Memphis."
With the disappointing finish at the flat one-mile oval, David Starr remains in the twelfth position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship point standings. Starr is just 72 points behind Chad McCumbee for tenth and 111 points behind Erik Darnell for the eighth position.
Saturday night, June 28, Starr and his No. 11 Red Horse Racing team will look to end their seven-week stretch with a win as they head to the Home of the Blues for the running of the O'Reilly 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Starr will look to rock and roll to Victory Lane as the green flag waves shortly after 9 P.M. Eastern. The 200-lap race will be televised live on SPEED starting at 8:30 P.M. Eastern. It can also be heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio, along with Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
