David Starr - No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra
Round 16 of 25 - Bristol Motor Speedway: O'Reilly 200
STARR ON BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY: "I love racing at Bristol Motor Speedway. It is definitely one of my favorite tracks that we race at in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. There is always so much action at Bristol, since we get around the half-mile so quick. When they re-concreted the racetrack, I thought that it was going to take away some of the racing action. But last year's racing definitely proved that theory wrong - we were racing three and four wide around Bristol. No one would have ever expected that a few years ago. It was exciting for all of the competitors and I'm sure that it was entertaining for the fans. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series always puts on one heck of a race at BMS, and this year's race will be no different."
STARR ON THE ATMOSPHERE AT BRISTOL: "Bristol is just a neat place to drive at. But the feeling that you get when you walk through the tunnel is absolutely great. Once you get inside the track and look around at the surroundings, it seems like the 160,000 seats just go on forever into the sky. It is one heck of a stadium, to see all of the fans surrounding the whole track. It is a really cool thing. It's always noisy inside, because you are basically in the ground. You can smell and hear everything. I love to race at Bristol and if Bristol does not get your blood pumping, I don't think anything will."
STARR ON RED HORSE RACING'S SHORT TRACK SUCCESS: "Bristol is a great track and to be going back there with Red Horse Racing, driving a Toyota Tundra is just awesome. Red Horse Racing really seems to shine on short tracks, which gives us a lot of confidence going into this week's race. My crew chief Jamie Jones always gives me especially awesome trucks for the short tracks and the strategy that we play always seems to have us out front at the end of the race. We really feel like we have a shot at winning on Wednesday night. In 2006 at Bristol, we finished fifth, so we think we can improve that finish. Everyone's excited and I just can't wait to go racing at Bristol again."
STARR ON HIS PREFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW BRISTOL: "Well, I actually prefer the way it was before they re-concreted the track. But, the change that they made, opened up more options for the drivers. Before, to pass someone you had to give them the bump-and-run. Now, we are racing three and four wide and you are able to go where the other driver is not. It is good for the racing and the competition, because the best trucks will get to the front. When you used to get bumped out of the groove, you were freight-trained and ended up at the end of the line, so the change made the racing better. Don't get me wrong, the new track is awesome, but I kind of liked the racing the way it was before."
STARR ON SPRINT CUP DRIVERS, JIMMIE JOHNSON AND KYLE BUSCH RACING IN THE NCTS: "Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is special. It is always good hard racing that is filled with action. Our races are not 500 miles, but 200 or 250, which means that if you are not running hard from the beginning, you will find yourself in the back of the field quickly. To have Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch racing in the Truck Series at Bristol, shines a spotlight on us and hopefully will bring new viewers and will open the eyes of some fans who haven't watched the Truck Series before. But to have Jimmie, the reigning champion of the Cup Series driving for a person like Randy Moss is good for our sport. It's going to be a very good thing and I see nothing wrong with it."
LUCKY NO. 7 FOR BRISTOL CHASSIS?: For Wednesday's race at Bristol, crew chief Jamie Jones has chosen TRD 103. This will be the seventh time that Starr has raced this chassis in the 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, as he has raced it at Auto Club Speedway (California), Atlanta Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Michigan International Speedway, Memphis Motorsports Park, and O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Starr steered this Tundra to a 13th-place finish at California, a 21st-place finish at Atlanta, a 6th-place finish at Dover, a 26th-place finish at Michigan, a 5th-place finish at Memphis, and most recently a 16th-place finish at ORP.
STARR AT BRISTOL: In six previous starts at "The World's Fastest Half-Mile," Starr has one top-five and three top-ten finishes, with a best of fifth coming in 2006, when he was with Red Horse Racing. He has completed 99.4% of laps competed (1199 of 1206) and has recorded zero DNF's. Starr's average starting position is 15.7 and his average finishing position is 12.3.
TEN TO GO: There are ten races left in the 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and through the first fifteen, Starr and Red Horse Racing have recorded four top-five and seven top-ten finishes. Starr's highest finish of second came at Mansfield Motorsports Park in May, where he led 170 laps. The Houston, Texas, native's average finishing position is 13.8.
CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to David and his wife, Kim, as they are expecting their first child in the early spring.
